Maldives Media Council (MMC) and the delegation of
Maldivian journalists met with the Press Council of India (PCI) in New Delhi’s
PCI Conference room yesterday. This was a part of a Field trip training conducted
by Amity University in collaboration with the Media Council and the Government
of India to train Maldivian journalists.
Vice President of MMC Hussain Saqeef, Council Member
Mohamed Shaafiu and Council Member Muizzu Ibrahim attended this meeting. The
Chairperson of the Press Council of India, Retired Justice of the Supreme Court
of India Ranjana Prakash Desai, Council Member Shri G. Sudhakar Nair, Secretary
Shri Nungsanglemba, and other senior officials of the Council also attended the
meeting. Additionally, Dr. Sangita Pravendra, Course Director of the Indian
Institute of Mass Communication, also took part in the meeting.
Professional journalists provided information during the
session, which took place from morning to evening. They shared knowledge to
Maldivian journalists about their experiences and the obstacles encountered as
journalists.
Justice Ranjana Prakash, chair of the PCI, complimented
the meeting as a positive development in the cooperation between the MMC and
the PCI. She also expressed her appreciation to the Maldivian journalists who
attended to the meeting. In this session the delegation emphasized the
significance of cooperation between two councils and encouraged to further
efforts in regard this. The delegation who attended the meeting highlighted the
significance of collaboration between the two councils and encouraged to do
more collaborative works as a partner. However, the discussions also held about
the council mandatory works and challenges that are faced to the countries.
The Press Council of India and the Maldives Media
Council never had such a formal conversation this in-depth. India’s Media is governed
by the Press Council of India, which was established in 1979. There are 28
Specialist in the council who represents in different filed of expertise.
